Summer tourism is booming... is your feed ready for it?
If you run a small-town business in Powell River or anywhere in BC, your Instagram or Facebook page could be the very first impression visitors get. And let’s be honest — if your feed looks a little dusty or confusing, they might scroll past you.
Here’s how to spruce up your social media presence for tourist season:
1. Pin the Important Stuff
Think of your pinned posts like the signs in your storefront window. They should quickly tell visitors:
What you offer
Where to find you
When you're open
Consider pinning a post with directions, a seasonal menu, a welcome video, or even a “new here?” reel.
2. Update Your Bio
Tourists don’t know your brand (yet!), so let your bio do the heavy lifting:
Use your town name ("Located in Powell River, BC")
Mention what makes you special ("Handmade gifts • Coffee bar • Ocean views")
Include your current hours or booking link
Your bio should act like a tiny tour guide for your business.
3. Highlight Local Love
If you’re part of the community, show it off! Create a highlight bubble for “Local Tips” or “Visitors Guide” where you can include your fave lunch spots, beach walks, or hidden gems. It builds trust and makes tourists feel like they’re being let in on a local secret.
4. Use Geotags + Hashtags
Every time you post, use location tags like:
Powell River
Sunshine Coast BC
Small Town BCAnd throw in visitor-focused hashtags like #ExploreBC or #SummerInPowellRiver to show up in travel searches.
5. Let Your Personality Shine
You don’t need to feel “salesy.” Just post a friendly welcome message, share a behind-the-scenes video, or do a “Meet the Owner” post. Tourists want to support real people, not just polished brands.
Final tip:
If you haven’t posted in a while, don’t panic. Just start with one post that says “We’re open and ready for summer!” and go from there.
