How Often Should You Post? (Here’s What I Tell My Clients)

One of the most common questions I get from small-town business owners in Powell River is this:“How often do I need to post on social media?”
Here’s my answer:It depends on your business, your goals, and most importantly your capacity.
But let me break it down:
🛠️ Service-Based Businesses (like salons, mechanics, realtors)
Post as often as you can until your feed feels “full.”That means:
A complete bio
At least 9-12 recent posts
Highlights for your services, hours, and FAQ
Once you’ve built that foundation, aim for:
1 post a week
Stories a few times a week
Engagement every couple of days (replying to comments, liking posts in your community)
🛍️ Product-Based Businesses (like boutiques, cafés, or markets)
You’ll want to post more frequently to stay top-of-mind:
3+ posts a week
Daily stories if possible
Regular product shots, new arrivals, and promotions
And don’t worry about perfection... consistency matters more than aesthetics.
🙋♀️ But What If I Miss a Week?
Social media isn’t all or nothing. I skipped posting for a week once because I was busy doing strategy sessions and chatting with business owners in person and that was marketing!
The goal is to show up in a way that fits your life and builds real relationships.
Bottom line?
Post as often as you can maintain without burning out and let your feed be a reflection of your business, not your entire marketing strategy.
